Delta Blues Band was originally formed as Delta Blues Boogie Band in may 1968 in Copenhagen. The group was established around Troels Jensen and Thomas Puggaard M&#344;ller,who had been the bluegrass-duo Troels & Thomas. Together with Michael Puggaard M&#344;ller and Soeren Engel they started to play traditional blues in the small clubs in Copenhagen. In the spring 1969 they got the chance to record an album for the big established record-company E.M.I. and their album was one of the first rockalbums using multitrack technique in Denmark. Technique or not the album sold extremely badly. Just after the release of their debut album the brothers Thomas and Michael left the group to form the successful, but very shortliving group Pan. The next couple of yearsthe group was playing a loton Festivals and as backingfor touring bluespeople likeSonny Terry,Link Wray,Joh Lee Hooker,Bo Diddleyetc.,but the group was stillunderground and had notgot their real breakthrough.One of the reasons mighthad been the constantchange of members,so thegroup never really learnedto play together.The groupbegan to sell records,whenthey recorded “NoOverdubs”with theamerican guitarplayer BillyCross.The group hadalready worked togetherwith Cross,when he visitedDenmark in 1974-75 then asBilly Schwartz.In theeighties became DeltaCross Band a very popularliveband,not only inDenmark,but on festivals inScandinavi,Germany andthe rest of Europe.But allthat is history.Here youhave the very first albumfrom the Danish blueslegends Delta Blues Band.Delta Blues Band 1969:Troels Jensen (el-g,org,lead vol)Thomas Puggaard-M&#344;ller (vo,el-g)Soeren Engel (el-bass,vo)Michael Puggaard M&#344;ller (dr)Guests on album on variousblowing instruments:BentHesselmann,Kjeld Ipsen,JensJoergen GjedstedHurdy GurdyStarted as B.B.Brothers inCopenhagen and hadreleased a terricfic single”Balla Balla/Dont Reply” in 1966. In 1970 they madesome very rare recordingsfor Danish Radio, were wehave choosen two “HarryThe Loverman”and”Speedboss”. Like HurdyGurdy they made their firstsingle on Spectator recordsand sold nothing. Two moresingles on more establishedcompanies like Sonet andCBS did not any better.
